-
What is a counseling session like?Experiences in counseling sessions will differ based on the counseling program and the personalities of the counselor and the client. Generally, the first counseling session can feel very structured, almost like an interview, because the counselor is learning a complete overview of your life. The counselor will ask a variety of basic and personal questions in order to more fully understand you as a person and your current situation. After the first session, most counseling sessions will feel like having a private conversation, one that you know will stay confidential. The counselor is there to listen and offer guidance and support. Counseling sessions with young children tend to include a mixture of the counselor talking to the parent(s) and Play therapy with the child.
